More new homes, decline in construction sentiment In the first half of 2018, 6,517 new dwellings were built in Hungary, 30% more than a year earlier. Based on issued dwelling construction permits and simple declarations, the number of homes to be built fell by 8.9% to 18,066 compared to the first half of 2017, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reports. Bosch expands its Budapest Engineering Center The German multinational engineering and electronics company Bosch expands its Budapest Engineering Center with an EUR 120 million investment. In the new building complex housing creative spaces, innovation zones, and relaxation areas, Hungarian engineers will develop Bosch's self-driving systems and the Budapest unit will also have a considerable role in the German company's electromobility-related R&D activities. The first phase of the investment is set to be finished by 2021. World’s biggest bicycle producer expands to Hungary Taiwan-based Giant Group is going to establish its second European manufacturing and logistics unit in Gyöngyös, east of Budapest. Worth almost EUR 48 million, the investment, which is to be realized in three phases, shall occupy 228,000 square meters. Runway re-opened at Budapest Airport One day before the scheduled deadline, Runway 1 of Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest was re-opened for traffic. The first aircraft to take off from the new concrete was an Emirates Boeing 777-300 type aircraft departing to Dubai. The handover of Runway 1 was made urgent by the need to meet the demand of increased traffic in the summer peak more safely and more comfortably.
