October 6: national day of mourning and remembrance
168 years ago, on October 6, 1849, thirteen rebel generals of the Hungarian army were executed by the Austrian Empire in the town of Arad, then part of the Kingdom of Hungary (now in Romania), after the Hungarian Revolution and war of independence (1848–1849). In commemoration of the event, October 6 is a national day of mourning and remembrance in Hungary.
