Last year, eight new four-star hotels with 1,000 rooms were opened in Budapest. Outside the Hungarian capital, Colliers expects hotels to be built with EU funding at spa towns in the next two years. Compared to 2009, the occupancy rate in higher-category hotels in Budapest was higher last year: 60% for five-star hotels, 50% for four-star hotels and 39% for three-star hotels.
Figures for 2010 show the number of guest nights in Hungary rising two percent last year, with hotels recording a 6% increase. In Budapest, tourists spent 5 percent more guest nights, while visitors at Lake Balaton spent 5-8% fewer nights than a year before.
