As the airline's Vice President for Global Sales, Mikko Turtiainen pointed out, Finnair is growing through the biggest expansion of its history. Last year, they had close to 12 million passengers - a figure they would like to see increase to 20 million by 2030.

Part of the expansion will be the launch of a third daily flight between Helsinki and Budapest  in the summer timetable to provide shorter connection times to North America and the Scandinavian region. The move will increase the number of flights between the two cities to 23 a week.

Within Asia, Japan and China are the two most important markets for Finnair. Although, most passengers use Helsinki as a stopover, more and more people choose Finland as their destination, especially Lappland, which has recently become a favorite among Chinese and Hungarian tourists.

Mikko Turtiainen also highlighted the cargo business, which accounts for 12-15% of Finnair's revenues. The airline exports mainly fish from Finland to the Far East, for example 2.5 tonnes a month to Japan.
