Gian Domenico Tiepolo

Orkesztika Foundations 6th Solo and 4th Duo Festival

A must-see event for contemporary dance aficionados, this four-day festival brings to the fore young dance talents and the stars of tomorrow. The event originally began as a platform for mostly Hungarian artists, but spread and now consists of a large contingent of artists, from France, Croatia, Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Two Choreographies of Andrea Ladányi

Two works will be shown by notable contemporary dancer-choreographer Andrea Ladányi and her “La Dance Company.” The first work is titled “6 9 1 3” and performed by Zsolt Bánki, Kitty Fejes, Ladányi herself and Miklós Marcell. The second, with an even more unique title, “Like the Virgin Mary, only her head unscrews,” is performed by Martina Kovács.

Tranz Danz: Transit

Transit examines memory from a social, psychological and cultural perspective through dance. Choreographer Gerzson Péter Kovács directs five dancers in a performance that returns to Trafó after premiering there last October.

Art of the Orient: East of the Moon

An encore presentation of a belly-dancing and flamenco performance choreographed by a group of young Hungarian creators, who dub the evening “Dance of Andaluzia.” The performance will be a mix of Spanish, Arabian and gypsy folk culture.

Die Rhinenixen

Offenbach’s Fairies on the Rhine will receive the full treatment when the Slovenian National Opera Theater Company delivers 10 performances at Cankarjev Dom’s Gallus Hall. The 140-year-old piece premiered in Montpellier in 2002 as a concert performance. The composition is set in 1522 during the Wars of the Peasants on the Rhine and deals with war, lust and revenge.

Anastacia

European pop princess Anastacia burst onto the music scene in 2000 with her debut single, ”I’m Outta Love.” Her follow-up albums, 2001’s ”Not That Kind” and 2002’s ”Freak of Nature,” garnered international praise and over USD10 million in sales. The singer’s self-titled third album comes after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her struggles have no doubt affected her musical content, which she says now has more of a rock quality to it. Her current single, ”Sick and Tired” ripped up the pop charts at the end of 2004.

Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival

The Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, first held in Krakow, but since 2004 relocated to Warsaw, annually honors not just composers, but a wealth of classical music during its 200 years of history. The festival hosts numerous concerts, conferences and exhibitions packed into 11 days at venues around the Polish capital and beyond, with parallel events held in Gdansk.
